Bronze Blood Eagle Cuff Bracelet with Chased Details
This cuff was created by the process of chasing. A sheet of bronze was laid onto a flat surface and the design was hammered into the metal using small tools. Then the design was sawn out, bent into a bracelet and then antiqued.
The man depicted on the bracelet is enduring a practice which was known as the "blood eagle". This was done by separating the ribs from the spine on a person's back and opening them to pull the lungs through on either side, creating the "wings". While this was described in the sagas of the time, there is still debate as to whether this was an actual practice or not. The blood eagle ritual has been depicted on the recent Vikings tv show.
This is an original design which was created by Kevin
The cuff is 2 inches and 1/8 in width.
